The historical town of Bluff

Between Monument Valley and Canyonlands we came to the historical town of Bluff. In 1880, 200 pioneers arrived here, concluding a six month, seemingly impossible journey, during which they established a wagon road, the Hole in the Rock trail, across the most inhospitable, impassible, yet beautiful terrain. Their journey took them from Escalante, to the Colorado River and 120 miles from the river to Bluff. Here they established the San Juan Mission which was the first and probably the only settlement purposely placed adjacent to two Indian nations with the goal of establishing better Indian relations.
We spent a couple of hours at the restored historic fort wandering through the original huts and learning about the early settlers way of life. The girls participated in an educational program and we all watched a documentary on the mission. It's hard to believe that they all made it safely to Bluff, through the freezing cold and searing heat of the hard desert terrain. Unfortunately, I do not have any other pictures to download as I used my camera and forgot to get pictures with the phone.
